How to Stop Fundraising Calls

Fundraising calls are phone calls asking for donations to charities, political campaigns, or causes. They can come from legitimate organizations or professional fundraising firms that keep a large percentage of the money raised. Under the TCPA, you have the right to ask them to stop.

Charities and political organizations are exempt from the National Do Not Call Registry, but you can still ask any caller to place you on their internal do-not-call list. They are required to honor your request. The TCPA also restricts automated fundraising calls — most robocalls for fundraising require your prior consent.

When you receive a fundraising call, ask the caller to remove you from their call list and note the date. Register on the Do Not Call Registry at donotcall.gov — it won't block charity or political calls, but it stops the commercial telemarketers who often fundraise on their behalf. Block repeat offenders.
